At just 22, Nigerian advocate Zuriel Oduwole has earned a prestigious nomination for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing her global efforts in peacebuilding, education, and gender equality.
Born in Los Angeles to Nigerian grandparents, Oduwole has engaged with over 35 world leaders, influencing policies that foster education, development, and peace.
Her diplomatic journey began early—at 13, she mediated in the Guyana-Venezuela territorial dispute and later advised Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on peace strategies during the Arab blockade of Qatar.
Her passion for education led her to establish Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand Up (DUSUSU), in 2013, empowering young girls across Africa and the Caribbean through leadership and education advocacy.
Recognized for her role in ending child marriage in Mozambique and receiving the Ban Ki-moon Leadership Award in 2022, her Nobel nomination highlights the rising influence of youth-led global activism.
Reacting to the honor, Oduwole said, “I have never sought recognition; only to speak up where it’s needed.”
The winner will be announced later this year, marking another milestone for youth voices driving global change.
