Tyla Becomes First Female African Artist To Hit One Billion Streams On Spotify

South African singer Tyla has made history as the first female singer in Africa to have a song surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Her 2023 hit song “Water” off her self-titled album hit the significant milestone for the singer.

With this feat, Tyla becomes only the second African singer to have a song hit over one billion streams on Spotify after Rema.

Rema’s hit song “Calm Down” became the first African song to surpass one billion streams on the global music streaming platform in 2024.

“Water,” which was released on July 28, 2028, earned Tyla a global status as she went on to win several global awards, such as a Grammy for Best African Song Performance, MTV EMA, MTV VMAs, and the BET.

Tyla has collaborated with other top international acts such as fellow Grammy Awards winner Tems and more.
