By Segun Adeyanju
Silas Adekunle, a Nigerian-born robotics engineer, has risen to global prominence as the world’s highest-paid robotics engineer, redefining the intersection of gaming and artificial intelligence.
Adekunle’s breakthrough came with MekaMon, the world’s first intelligent gaming robot, which blends robotics with augmented reality to create a lifelike gaming experience.
As the co-founder and CEO of Reach Robotics, he secured $12 million in funding and, in 2018, struck a landmark deal with Apple, making MekaMon available in the U.S. and UK.
His innovative strides have earned him global recognition, including a spot on the Financial Times’ “Top 100 Minority Ethnic Leaders in Technology” and Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Europe: Technology list.
Despite market challenges leading to Reach Robotics’ closure in 2019, Adekunle remains undeterred. He has since founded Awarri, an AI and robotics education platform focused on Africa, and co-founded R.I., a company that develops cloud-based solutions for managing robotics and industrial systems.
