Oluyede Confirmed As COAS By The House Of Reps
The Federal House of Representatives has confirmed the appointment of Olufemi Oluyede as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Oluyede’s appointment was confirmed by the chairman of the committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson, while making a presentation during a plenary session.
During the presentation, Benson disclosed that Oluyede had undergone thorough screening by the Joint Committee on Army and Defence on Wednesday, November 27, 2025, to ensure that he meets all the qualifications before his confirmation for the role after he was nominated by President Bola Tinubu as Acting Chief of Army Staff.

Recall that Oluyede was nominated as acting COAS after his predecessor, Taoreed Lagbaja, stepped down due to health reasons before his death.
The lawmakers are confident of Oluyede’s ability to lead the Nigerian military and tackle the challenge of insecurity bedeviling the country.
“The confirmation of Oluyede is not just a procedural step but a vote of confidence in his leadership and expertise,” Benson said.
He is expected to lead the fore in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity, especially in the northern part of the country, and also strengthen the country’s military.
Stakeholders anticipate significant reforms in the military as he takes charge.
Apart from the Boko Haram terrorist group, Nigeria has been confronted by other criminal elements such as the Lakurawa terrorist sect in the northwestern part of Nigeria and the surge in kidnapping and banditry activities.
Oluyede is expected to take the lead in Nigeria’s moves towards addressing insecurity.
