Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has visited activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi at his Lagos residence, marking their first meeting since Farotimi’s release from the Ekiti correctional center.

In a post on X, Obi shared details of the visit, describing Farotimi as a “symbol of courage” and expressing admiration for his unwavering dedication to justice and a better Nigeria.

“Yesterday, following my visit with President Obasanjo, I made time to see my dear younger brother, Dele Farotimi.

“I was pleased to find him in good spirits and deeply encouraged by his resilience,” Obi wrote.

Farotimi, a key figure in Obi’s 2023 campaign, was detained for 21 days over alleged defamation of senior lawyer Afe Babalola in his book Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.

He was arrested in Lagos on December 3, 2024, and later granted bail of ₦30 million on December 24.

During his detention, Obi had visited Babalola in Ekiti, a move widely seen as an attempt at mediation.
