Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman has been ranked the 14th best football player in the world.

The Atlanta of Italy star was part of players nominated for the 2024 edition of the Ballon d’Or after an impressive 2023/24 season saw him score a hattrick in the final of the Europa League.

Ademola Lookman is the first African player to score a hattrick in the final of a major European competition and is also in contention for the CAF Player of the Year Award after emerging as one of the best players in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

Raised in England, Ademola Lookman started his international career with England and featured for the European country’s youth teams in several competitions.

He won the FIFA U-20 World Cup with England in 2017 and would go on to switch allegiance to Nigeria in 2022 after a series of setbacks, which meant he was ignored by the Three Lions.

Speaking on his international switch, Lookman said:

“I’ve always been Nigerian. I’ve always been in touch with Nigeria, with the group of people and the culture. They were very welcoming, very loving, and took me in as one of their own. For me, it’s a dream and an honour to be here, to be able to have that badge on my chest.”

Ademola Lookman is not set to relent on his exploits anytime soon and said that he has “the fire; I’m still trying to achieve and to do more. I’m never really satisfied. That’s always my mindset—to always go for more.”
