Nigerians in Diaspora are known for flying the country’s flag high and Yemi Mobolade is great example of a Nigeria who has defied the odds and come out top.

Yemi Mobolade was elected as the first Black mayor of Colorado Springs in 2023. He was elected at a time of instability in Colorado but has now spent one year in office and brought stability to the US State.
The Nigerian-American replaced John Suther, a former federal prosecutor and the attorney general of Colorado, after gaining 57% of votes as against the 43% gained by Wayne Williams his closest rival.

“Wow. Wow. I am speechless. This is our win,” Mobolade said after winning the seat a year ago.

“We are Colorado Springs. It’s a new day in our beloved city. Do you believe that? Colorado Springs will become an inclusive, culturally rich, economically prosperous, safe, and vibrant city.”

Yemi Mobolade’s story is interesting. He moved to Colorado in 2010, and became part of the leadership of the local community.

He worked as Colorado’s small business development administrator and is renowned for cofounding two popular eateries in the city, The Wild Goose Meeting House and Good Neighbors Meeting House.

The Nigerian also worked as the vice president of company expansion and retention at the Colorado Springs Chamber and Economic Development Corporation.
