Nigerian Florence Eshalomi Is New British Trade Envoy
Nigerian-British politician Florence Eshalomi has bagged a new appointment as the trade envoy of the United Kingdom to Nigeria.
Eshalomi confirmed her appointment via a post on X as she becomes the second Nigerian in history after Helen Grant to fill the position.
“It is an honour to have been appointed as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria,” she posted on X.
“I’m looking forward to building on my close ties with Nigeria to promote a strong and flourishing economic relationship between our two great nations.
“I am looking forward to building on the UK’s relationship with Nigeria to help explore shared growth and opportunities for both countries.”
The business and trade secretary of the United Kingdom, Jonathan Reynolds, in a statement on Tuesday, announced the appointment of 32 parliamentarians and hailed the role of trade and investment in stable economic growth.
“I’ve launched a new team of trade envoys, who will use their experience, expertise, and knowledge to unlock new markets around the world for British businesses, drumming up investment into the UK and ultimately driving economic growth,” Reynolds stated.

Florence Eshalomi, 44, has vast experience in British politics, as she was first elected as the country’s member of parliament (MP) for Vauxhall in 2019 to replace Kate Hoey.
In 2024, she was reelected for the newly created Vauxhall and Camberwell Green constituency.
Eshalomi is a member of the Labour and Cooperative parties and previously served as an Assembly Member (AM) for Lambeth and Southwark from 2016 to 2021.
Before her recent appointment, she worked on transport, housing, and equality as an MP and is the current chair of the committee for housing, communities, and local government.
