Mark Zuckerberg Becomes World’s Third-Wealthiest Person, Surpassing Larry Ellison

Mark Zuckerberg

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg has overtaken Oracle founder Larry Ellison to claim the title of the world’s third-wealthiest person, according to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaire List on January 6.

Zuckerberg’s net worth surged by over 4% on Monday, reaching $217.7 billion. In contrast, Ellison’s fortune dipped slightly by 0.3%, settling at $209 billion. These shifts in wealth reflect the changes in their respective companies’ stock performances.

Meta’s stock closed at $630.20 on Monday, marking a 4% increase that significantly boosted Zuckerberg’s fortune. Meanwhile, Oracle’s stock fell by 0.3%, closing at $165.78, contributing to Ellison’s slight decline in net worth.

The two billionaires had exchanged positions on the wealth ranking as recently as Friday, January 3, with Ellison briefly holding third place before Monday’s developments.

Despite Zuckerberg’s rise, Elon Musk remains the richest person globally, boasting a net worth of $425.2 billion. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos follows in second place with $241 billion.

This latest reshuffle among the world’s top billionaires underscores the influence of stock market fluctuations on the fortunes of tech leaders.
