On Sunday, July 21. 2024, US President Joe Biden announced that he would be dropping from the presidential race and endorsed his vice Kamala Harris to lead the race for the Democratic Party.

“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said in an official statement.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.”

Kamala Harris accepted President Biden’s endorsement in a statement and has since started campaign to gain the full endorsement of Democrats.

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” she said.
“I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”

Analysts have questioned the ability of Kamala Harris to beat former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump in the race.

Some say America is not prepared for a female president and are worried she might not be able to stand firm in global politics which under the watch of President Biden has been unimpressive with America’s hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan that led to the loss of lives of American soldiers, the Israel vs Hamas war which still has some Americans in Hamas’ captivity, and the Russia vs Ukraine war. Critics also believe that four months is a short time to get the right path in beating Trump at the polls.

Others say she is a younger candidate at the age of 59, and the prospects of a woman as president looks interesting.

Kamala will be aiming to add to her historical records of being the first female vice president of America and the first African American and South Asian American vice president.

The American presidential election will be held on November 5, 2024.
