Folashade Oluwafemiayo Sets New World Para-Powerlifting Record As Nigeria Finishes 2024 Paralympics On A High

Nigeria finished the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France, on a high after Folashade Oluwafemiayo won gold in the women’s para-powerlifting 86 kg category.

The 39-year-old beat her Paralympic record to set a new world record and win gold for Team Nigeria after lifting an impressive 167 kg.

She beat China’s Deng Kuemei, who lifted 155 kg to win silver, and Egyptian para-powerlifter Nadia Ali, who won bronze after lifting 145 kg.

Folashade’s feat brought Nigeria’s total medal win at the 2024 Paralympic Games to seven as the country finished 40th on the medal table.

Eniola Bolaji won Nigeria’s first medal in the 2024 Paralympic Games after clinching bronze in the women’s singles SL3 badminton event.

Esther Nworgu won Nigeria’s second medal at the global showpiece after winning a silver medal in the 41 kg category of the women’s para-powerlifting event.

Nigeria won its first gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games after Onyinyechi Mark set a new world record by lifting an impressive 150 kg at the La Chapelle Arena to win gold for Team Nigeria in the women’s para-powerlifting 61 kg category.

Flora Ugwunwa won Nigeria a silver medal in the final of the women’s javelin F54 event on Saturday, September 7, 2024, to bring the country’s medal win at the global event to four.

Nigeria clinched a medal in the para-table tennis event after Isau Ogunkunle won bronze before Bose Omolayo won silver in the women’s 79 kg para-powerlifting category.

Folashade ensured Nigeria finished on a high with her gold medal win on Sunday.

Nigeria won a total of two gold medals, three silver medals, and two bronze medals at the 2024 Paralympic Games.
