Did You Know? Nigerian Model Ololade Ayelabola Holds Guinness World Record For Longest Catwalk
Nigerian model Ololade Ayelabola has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance walked on a catwalk by a model, covering an impressive 125.11 km (77.74 mi) during a fashion show held in Lagos last October.
The 26-year-old’s record-breaking event featured a diverse lineup of models, including individuals with albinism, vitiligo, tribal marks, and plus-size models.
Ayelabola designed the show around themes of inclusivity and diversity, aiming to inspire people to embrace their authentic selves.
“I wanted a runway where everyone would be included and everybody could showcase their talent and we could inspire others to be who they were and to stay true to themselves,” Ayelabola explained.
Her motivation stemmed from personal experience. Despite six years in the modeling industry, she was once rejected from Lagos Fashion Week for not being tall enough. This rejection inspired her to create opportunities for talented individuals who face similar barriers due to physical attributes or skin conditions.

The record attempt spanned five days and required extensive training. Throughout the event, Ayelabola wore a variety of vibrant outfits, many designed and produced in Nigeria. When faced with physical pain, she persevered by focusing on her larger purpose.
“For every step I took on the catwalk, I was taking a walk against stereotypes and challenges we face in the model and fashion industry,” she said. Community support played a crucial role in her achievement, with people leaving work to cheer her on.
Reflecting on her accomplishment, Ayelabola described feeling “great, overwhelming and amazing” about holding a Guinness World Records title.
She encourages others to pursue their dreams, saying, “This is to tell everyone that your dream is valid and to all dreamers, chasers, risk takers out there, go break some record.”
With a laugh, she added, “But don’t come towards my record. Dare to dream and make your dream a reality.”
