David Sanogokoya Is The First African Cadet To Win The International Cadet Sword of Honour

Nigeria’s David Sanogokoya has made history as the first African Cadet to emerge winner of the International Cadet Sword of Honour from the Royal Air Force College Cranwell, United Kingdom.

In a statement on its X account, the British High Commission praised Sanogokoya for his achievement.

“HC #RMontgomeryUK was pleased to meet Flying Officer Sangokoya David, first African Cadet to win the International Cadet Sword of Honour from UK’s #RoyalAirForce, Cranwell,” the British High Commission’s post on X said.

“He congratulated him on making history, heard his experience, and reflected on our relationship.”

From March to September 2023, Sanogokoya attended the Modularised Initial Officers’ Training Course 22 as a cadet and finished the course as the Best International Cadet.

The Nigerian Defence Academy also heaped praises on him for making “Nigeria proud.”

“The Nigerian Defence Academy proudly celebrates the exceptional achievement of Pilot Officer David Sangokoya, a distinguished Officer Cadet of the Nigerian Defence Academy,” the Nigerian Defence Academy said.

“His outstanding performance which earned him a nomination to the Modularized Initial Officers’ Training (MIOT) Course 22 at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell (RAFCC) in the United Kingdom has earned him the prestigious International Sword of Honour for 2024.

“As a cadet, Pilot Officer Sangokoya demonstrated remarkable dedication and excellence, emerging as the Best International Cadet on the course.”

The Defence Academy further said that the “prestigious award, presented by His Royal Highness, William, the Prince of Wales, on behalf of King Charles III, is a testament to his hard work and the exceptional training he received at the Nigerian Defence Academy.”

“Notably, Pilot Officer Sangokoya is the first African recipient of the RAFCC International Sword of Honour, highlighting not only his individual brilliance but also the Nigerian Defence Academy’s pedigree of producing high-achieving officers who excel on the global stage.

“This achievement underscores the academy’s commitment to excellence and its ability to produce world-class officers.”
