Commemorating 67 Years of “Things Fall Apart”
This year marks the 67th anniversary of “Things Fall Apart”, Professor Chinua Achebe’s groundbreaking novel that transformed African literature and influenced worldwide discussions on identity, culture, and power dynamics. From June 29 to July 5, 2025, the “Things Fall Apart” Festival 2025 took place as a comprehensive seven-day event. The festival united prominent literary figures, culture lovers, historians, creative artists, and devoted readers in an engaging celebration that recognised Achebe’s contributions and their ongoing significance in contemporary society.
The 2025 festival centred around the theme “Masculine, Feminine, Human: The Dialogue of Complements in Things Fall Apart,” encouraging participants to examine Achebe’s profound understanding of equilibrium – the interplay between male and female perspectives, personal identity and collective belonging, and the tension between preserving traditions and embracing transformation.
The festival provided a diverse cultural experience through various activities including narrative presentations, intimate discussion groups, writing competitions, expert panel conversations, artistic displays, commemorative readings, and the establishment of a dedicated Things Fall Apart Village. These offerings created a meaningful platform that connects different generations while honouring Chinua Achebe’s lasting influence.
