Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Dream Count” Longlisted for Prestigious Women’s Prize for Fiction 2025

Just hours after its release, Dream Count, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s highly anticipated fourth novel, has already earned a spot on the 2025 Women’s Prize for Fiction longlist. This prestigious UK-based award, now marking its 30th year, honors the finest novel written in English by a woman, offering a grand prize of £30,000 (approximately US$38,123) to the winner.

Adichie, a literary powerhouse known for her influential storytelling, is nominated for Dream Count, a novel that delves into the intertwined lives of four women in America and Nigeria, exploring themes of memory, identity, and the consequences of their choices. Chair of Judges Kit De Waal praised the longlist, stating that it “shows the echoes of world events on everyday lives as well as the power and brilliance of women writing today.”

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has long been a defining voice in modern literature. Her previous works include Purple Hibiscus, which won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize; Half of a Yellow Sun, a past winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction; and Americanah, which received the National Book Critics Circle Award. She also authorises the widely acclaimed Dear Ijeawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions.

What’s Next for the Women’s Prize for Fiction?

The competition will continue. The shortlist of six novels will be announced on April 2, followed by the highly anticipated winner reveal on June 12. In addition to the prize money, the recipient will receive The Bessie, a striking bronze sculpture created by the late British artist Grizel Niven.
