By Segun Adeyanju

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Solid Minerals Corporation will transform the mining sector and ensure its sustainable development.

Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter, Alake revealed that the corporation, modeled after the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), will involve 50% private sector equity, 25% for Nigerians, and 25% for the Federal Government.

He outlined plans to enhance access to mining sites through improved transport systems, strengthen regulations, remediate abandoned mining pits, ensure investor security, and generate comprehensive geo-data to attract global players.

Ambassador Baxter commended the initiative and reaffirmed the UK’s support for capacity building, technical assistance, and investment in Nigeria’s mining sector.
