Actor John Dumelo Wins Parliamentary Seat In Ghana
Ghanaian film actor John Dumelo has been elected as a member of parliament in the 2024 elections in Ghana.
The thespian recorded a decisive victory in the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary election as a candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to unseat Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who previously held the position.

John Dumelo scored a total of 40,561 votes, while Lydia Alhassan earned 27,377 votes. Independent candidate Abdul Rauf Abugri Mumuni got 189 votes in the election, which had a total of 68,127 valid votes, 257 ballots rejected, and a total of 6,384 votes cast.
The 40-year-old who has starred in several Nollywood movies said, “Ghanaians have called for change, and they’ve demonstrated that if you don’t deliver or if arrogance creeps in, the people will vote you out,” while reacting to his victory.
“This is a lesson for all leaders: governance isn’t about wealth but about addressing the development needs of the people.
“I am committed to working tirelessly over the next four years to drive meaningful change and steer Ghana in the right direction.”
John Dumelo joins the list of Nollywood actors such as Desmond Elliot and Banky W, who have ventured into politics.
