In a move towards sustainable energy, Nigeria and China have inked a €7.6 billion agreement to develop a green hydrogen project in Akwa Ibom State.
The collaboration, formalized over the weekend in Uyo, involves the Federal Government, APPL Hydrogen Limited (AHL), and China’s LONGi Green Energy Technology Company Limited (LGETCL).
The initiative aims to transition Nigeria from fossil fuels to clean energy, positioning the nation at the forefront of global green energy innovation.
Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, highlighted the project’s potential to drive industrialization, create jobs, and attract foreign investment.
The facility, to be located within the Liberty Free Trade Zone in Ibeno Local Government Area, is set to produce 1.2 million metric tons of green methanol annually for export, along with medical oxygen and food-grade carbon dioxide.
This venture underscores Nigeria’s commitment to embracing renewable energy solutions and reducing its carbon footprint.
