To enhance technological and entrepreneurial education in Nigeria in a landmark move, the Federal Government has approved the establishment of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT), Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The announcement was made in a letter dated January 9, 2025, from the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, to the FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.

The letter emphasized that the institution aligns with the National Policy on Education, which aims to establish at least one federal polytechnic in each state to drive vocational training and innovation.

Dr. Alausa requested the FCT administration to propose suitable sites in Gwarinpa for the polytechnic’s temporary and permanent campuses.

A joint technical team from the Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), will inspect the recommended locations for final approval.

The letter also suggested the possibility of converting existing tertiary institutions in the FCT to fast-track the polytechnic’s establishment.

The BAT Federal Polytechnic is set to position Abuja as a leading hub for skills development and entrepreneurship, providing cutting-edge training and opportunities to empower the next generation of innovators and industry leaders.
