Matthieu Blazy Is Chanel’s New Creative Director

Global luxury and fashion outfit Chanel has appointed Matthieu Blazy as its new creative director after parting ways with Virginie Viard.

The French fashion outfit in a statement on Thursday, December 12, 2024, announced the appointment of the former Bottega Veneta creative director.

Blazy’s appointment now puts to rest speculations surrounding who will take over the most coveted fashion job.

The 40-year-old will oversee all haute couture, ready-to-wear, and accessories collections of the brand and report to Chanel’s president of fashion and president of Chanel SAS, Bruno Pavlovsky.

Blazy is most likely to commence work in the first half of 2025, as speculations say April, and he will display his first collection by October 2025.

“We hope to be together for 10, 15 years, or more. We’re just at the start of our story,” Chanel’s president Pavlovsky said of Blazy’s appointment.

“Together we’ll be able to write a new chapter for the brand.”

Reacting to his appointment as only the fourth official creative director in the 114-year history of the brand, Blazy expressed excitement and is eager to join the brand mostly known for its tweed suits, quilted handbags, and No. 5 perfume.

“I am thrilled and honored to join the wonderful house of Chanel. I look forward to meeting all the teams and writing this new chapter together,” Blazy noted.
