Why Chef Grace Nwaokobia Broke Guinness World Record For The Longest Home Kitchen Marathon
On June 14, 2024, Nigerian home kitchen chef Grace Nwaokobia embarked on a quest to break the Guinness World Record for the longest home kitchen cooking marathon and was successful in her attempt (pending certification) after spending 87 hours, 40 minutes in the kitchen and shattered Rickey Lumpkin II’s previous record of 68 hours and 30 minutes.
Since Chef Hilda Baci set her cooking record in 2023, several Nigerians have made attempts to break one Guinness record or another but the motive makes the difference in their various attempts.

For Grace Nwaokobia, her reason for attempting to break the record stems from her decision to motivate and encourage home kitchen chefs in Nigeria.
“What I intend to do with this attempt is to give gifts to home cooks, so something that can help their business, yam pounder, knife sets, anything that can just help their business basically,” Nwaokobia said.
Her journey as a home kitchen chef did not start with her Guinness attempt, she has been a chef since 2017.
“I started my food business in 2017 that is grace’s homemade kitchen and basically what I did was deliver food to people’s home and everything went up from there,” she revealed.
“As a home cook, I cook from my home kitchen so the record simply resonated with them.”
During her attempt, she cooked up to twenty recipes including coconut rice, pasta, Afang soup, and more, which were largely donated to charity.
