Viola Davis does not need an introduction to global arts and entertainment, but very few know that she has attained EGOT status.

EGOT is an abbreviation attached to individuals that have won all four major American entertainment awards (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards).

Viola Davis attained this status on the night of February 5, 2023, during the 66th edition of the Grammy Awards.

On that night, she won her first Grammy for the best audiobook, narration, and storytelling recording.

Her memoir “Finding Me” made the difference and saw her become only the 18th human being to attain EGOT status.

Before her Grammy win, she won an Emmy for “How to Get Away With Murder (2015),” an Oscar for “Fences” in 2017, and two Tony Awards for “King Hedley II” in 2001 and “Fences” in 2010.

Another interesting part of her EGOT journey is the fact that she is only the third black woman to join the EGOT club.

“I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola — to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, her everything,” Viola said during her Grammy acceptance speech.

“And it has been such a journey. I just EGOT!”

Viola Davis has used her voice to advocate for black rights in America and around the globe.

She has extended this voice to her craft by becoming the lead actor in films that have told strong African stories, such as “The Woman King.”

Only 18 people on the globe can boast of attaining EGOT status out of the over 8 billion occupants of the earth, and Viola Davis is one of those 18.

She has continued to serve as an inspiration for present and upcoming generations.

Her accomplishments are indelible in global history.
