Without a doubt, Rema is one of the biggest singers across the globe at the moment.

His song “Calm Down” broke several records in global music charts such as the Billboard and have bagged him numerous awards like the MTV VMAs, making many to ponder on the motivation of the 24-year-old singer.

In a chat with Capital Xtra London, Rema revealed that his and mother’s struggles while growing up served as motivation to push further towards stardom.

Rema narrated how his mother struggled to afford cost of transportation and amenities necessary for living.

He said those struggles influenced his music and he quickly bought a car for his mother when he broke into the music industry.

“I was tired of my mum trekking every day; she didn’t even have money to transport a bus or bike. So I had to take it to the next level ASAP,” he said.

“The moment I made money, I got her a car ASAP. We went for dinner, then I gave her that car.

“A lot of boys would go for their own cars first but I was still trekking, but I had to get a car for my mum first.”

He also credited his mother’s constant support and prayers as the reason for his success.

“She’s a great mum. She’s the reason I’m successful. Her prayers. She’s really proud of me,” the “Holiday” singer said.
