Peter Odemwingie, a former Super Eagles forward, has transitioned into a professional golfer after graduating from the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) school. The PGA announced this development through a Tuesday post and video on X.com.

Known for his illustrious football career, during which he scored over 30 Premier League goals for West Bromwich Albion and played for Cardiff City and Stoke City, Odemwingie has also participated in two World Cups and earned an Olympic medal in 2008.

In a statement on the PGA website, Odemwingie expressed pride in his academic and athletic achievements, saying, “I’m proud because I challenged myself not only to apply effort in a sport but also academically. It’s motivating being around people who have the drive to achieve and get this PGA Member badge on your chest! I hope my story motivates people to follow suit, whether through the PGA or any other form of study.”

Odemwingie aims to leverage his PGA professional status to promote golf, particularly in Nigeria and Russia, countries known for producing top football talent but with untapped potential in golf. He emphasized the need to organize tournaments in Nigeria with substantial prize money to boost the sport’s profile.

“These are very sporting nations, but they don’t have golfers representing them on the world stage, which is a shame,” Odemwingie noted. “Now that I have graduated, I am in a position to do something, and I hope to get backing to organize some tournaments in Nigeria for decent prize money.”

Having retired from football in 2019 after making 63 appearances for the Super Eagles since his debut in 2002, Odemwingie is determined to expand his influence in golf and pursue his goals step by step with his newfound PGA Professional status.
