Singer Simi has lent her voice to the protest in Kenya and called out African leaders for bad leadership.

Kenyan youths protested and took over the country’s parliament after a tax bill meant more hardship for citizens.

At least 22 people have been confirmed dead after police clashed with protesters as they stormed the Kenyan parliament building in Nairobi on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Footage of the protests in Kenya has gone viral on social media and Simi voiced support for protesters with a post on X.

“I stand with the people of Kenya. It is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights. Godspeed and Strength.”

Continuing, the singer who commands a huge fan base in Kenya said: “Wow. When you’ve had enough, the fight is almost inevitable.”

“African leaders – haven’t you done enough?

“I can’t wait for the day Africa is not a weapon fashioned against Africans. All of this amazing Black power and human resource, but the majority are not likely to thrive unless they run.”

President Ruto of Kenya announced on Wednesday that he has cancelled the tax bill as the East African country looks to clean up.

Kenyans have called out Ruto over the death of innocent protesters as his popularity in public continues to wane.

Bad leadership has been the bane of Africa since the end of colonial rule. Most African countries despite the abundance of mineral resources are considered some of the poorest on earth.
