14-Year-Old Nigerian Girl Earns 30 Tech Certifications After University Rejection

By Segun Adeyanju

At just 14, Nigerian prodigy Zainab has defied the odds, earning over 30 professional certifications in software engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning after being denied university admission due to age restrictions.

Despite scoring 262 in the 2023 JAMB exam—high enough for medical school—Zainab was ineligible for admission as Nigeria’s minimum age requirement for tertiary education is 16.

Undeterred, she pivoted to tech, mastering multiple programming languages and completing courses from ALX, Techvinson Academy, Udemy, and other international platforms.

Her expertise has led to the development of AI-powered projects, including chatbots, e-commerce platforms, and medical tech innovations.

While she remains passionate about medicine, Zainab now envisions a future where AI transforms healthcare, blending both fields to revolutionize diagnostics, robotic surgeries, and medical research.

Currently pursuing a National Diploma while seeking international study opportunities, she views her setback as a blessing in disguise.

Her inspiring journey underscores the power of resilience, adaptability, and lifelong learning, proving that barriers can lead to even greater breakthroughs.
